About the Yellow House Playschool

The Yellow House Playschool has been a beloved part of the Oakland community since the early 1980s. What began as a full-time childcare program for infants and preschoolers has grown into a vibrant, outdoor-focused playschool serving children ages 2 to 5. With a foundation rooted in play-based learning, creativity, and connection, we offer young children a place to thrive—socially, emotionally, and developmentally.

After a brief pause during the Covid-19 pandemic, we returned with renewed purpose and a bold new direction: embracing nature as our classroom. Today, Yellow House Playschool blends decades of early childhood education experience with the dynamic benefits of outdoor learning—giving children the space and freedom to explore, create, and grow at their own pace.

At the heart of it all is Jan Lozito, our founder and director. As an experienced educator, a dedicated community member, and a mother and grandmother herself, Jan brings unmatched warmth, insight, and care to every child and family she works with.
