Where every child's potential is nurtured in a warm, playful and safe environment.
Yellow House Playschool began in the early 1980s as a full-time childcare program for infants through preschoolers. Over the years, we’ve grown into a vibrant community serving children ages 2 to 5.
In 2020, after a brief pause during the Covid-19 pandemic, we embraced a bold new direction—transitioning from a primarily indoor setting to an outdoor-focused learning environment. This shift brought us closer to nature and even closer to our mission.
Through every change, our founder and director, Jan Lozito, has remained steadfast in her dedication to providing the highest quality care for our youngest and most cherished community members.
Jan Lozito has been a pillar of exceptional child care since 1980, nurturing young minds at her beloved Yellow House Playschool. With a rich background as a Child Development major and extensive training through UC Davis Extension, Merritt College and Bananas Childcare Resource Center.
Jan is not only a seasoned child care provider but also a passionate advocate for early literacy and educational development. She is certified through the Oakland Public Library's Books for Wider Horizons program, where she conducts engaging weekly story times for Head Start Centers. Her commitment extends to the REACH program, where she has volunteered extensively, helping elementary students enhance their reading skills. Jan also offers private tutoring in math and language arts, supporting elementary students in their academic journey.
A dedicated community member, Jan has served as PTA president at both Crocker Highlands Elementary and Edna Brewer Middle School. Currently she serves on the board of The East Bay Children's Book Project, which provides books to children in need.
Jan’s extensive background and genuine passion for nurturing young children make her an invaluable part of Yellow House Playschool. Her leadership brings warmth, expertise, and a deep commitment to each child’s development and well-being.
